Michael Hough, a member of Mustard’s
Retreat and also of the Yellow Room
Gang offers to facilitate a Drum Circle
(Hand Drums) that will incorporate the
following ideas: Hand Drums are in all
of our ancestry, although many of our
tribal traditions have been lost,
forgotten or intentionally rubbed out. I
believe that we, as a community are
now creating something new, something
that may or may not resemble any
existing tradition of drumming, but may
weave threads of many traditions
together, moving forward rather than
looking back. So I will not be teaching
African Rhythms, but will encourage
those who bring a drum to this circle to
also bring a spirit of freedom, of play,
of cooperation and even reverence for
what we do. I am prepared to lead
drummers through pieces I have
arranged, but will also welcome input
from others and will accompany them to
the best of my ability.
